Yonghui Dong received his bachelor degree in Bioengineering in Northwest A&F University (China) in 2007. Then he enrolled in the Erasmus Mundus program of International Master in Horticultural Sciences, and acquired the multiple diplomas from Bologna University (Italy), Munich University of Technology (Germany) and University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (Austria) in September, 2010 with the thesis ‘QTL analysis of sugars and organic acids in apricot’.

He joined the GMPF PhD program in FEM-IASMA in October, 2010. Since then he has been working on the project entitled ‘Metabolomic imaging: Looking fruits at molecular level’ under the supervision of Dr. Pietro Franceschi (FEM) and Dr. Fulvio Mattivi (Trento University). The main research focus is to understand the complex biological processes (e.g. fruit development and plant-pathogen interactions) by investigating the spatial distributions of the specific metabolites through matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) and desorption electrospray ionization (DESI).
