Nutrition and Nutrigenomics

Research Group (DQAN NN) - Genomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics for measuring at the systems level human metabolic flux in response to dietary intervention.

Nutrition and Nutrigenomics

Nutrition and Nutrigenomics Group (NN) mission is to provide a human nutritional research nucleus for the emerging strategic area of nutrigenomics. The enabling technologies of genomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics have provided for the first time a tool-kit capable of measuring at the systems level human metabolic flux in response to dietary intervention. The NN group provides research expertise in molecular microbial ecology, laboratory models of the gut microbiota and colonic fermentation, human tissue culture and health biomarkers, and the capacity to conduct pilot-scale human dietary interventions as well as technological aspects of microorganisms used in the production of fermented and functional foods. The research focus of the group is on plant bioactive components, especially fiber and polyphenols, fermented dairy products and probiotics. In combination with the genomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics platforms at FEM, the group provides a unique research facility and a keystone in the organically emerging centre of excellence in nutrigenomics at FEM.
