Education and training
Alessio got master degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Studies of Rome “La Sapienza”, Rome, Italy, in 2005. Pre-bachelor laboratory activities were done at the Institute of Agro-environmental and Forest Biology (IBAF) of the National Research Council (CNR) of Monterotondo, Rome, Italy.
After the university studies, Alessio followed the PhD course in Forest Ecology at the University of Studies “La Tuscia” of Viterbo, Italy, with Dr. Fernando Migliaccio and Dr. Francesco Loreto as tutors. He got the PhD in 2009, defending the thesis “Isoprene: from cell to environment”. Since then Alessio has been employed as post-doc researcher at the IBAF institute of CNR, working on carbon cycle and plant response to abiotic stress condition, as well as on plant adaptation and effect of simulated space environment.
Research activity
Since February 1st Alessio is a post-doc researcher at the FEM-IASMA Institute as a grant recipient in the frame of Marie Curie program PEOPLE – COFUND. He is working in the Environmental Biotechnologies platform on a project entitled "Alteration of plant-pathogen interaction caused by ozone-induced VOC emission - PATOVOC". By using plant physiology and molecular biology analysis, objective of the project is to understand how environmental pollutants and stressors alter VOC emission from forest vegetation, and if this alteration could affect plant response to pathogen attack.
